Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number

By Carly Mednick

According to the National Association of Women Business Owners, 11.6 million firms in the US are owned by women – accounting for 39% of privately-owned companies. Good, yes. But let’s make this better. With Monday Talent, we are playing our part.

Ever since studying entrepreneurship in college, I knew that starting a business was something that I wanted to accomplish. I’m naturally drawn to starting things from scratch in all aspects of life – whether it be cooking or running my own pretend stores/restaurants as a child, ringing up fake customers on my plastic cash register. Though it was always a goal, never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that helping launch a business was something that I would accomplish at the age of 27.

It’s empowering to be a young, female entrepreneur, but this comes with hurdles to overcome. In the back of my mind, there are always thoughts of ‘will people take me seriously because of my age? Because I am a woman?’ Although not easy to get these thoughts out of my head, it’s important to have the confidence and pride in my abilities. I’d say I’ve done a pretty good job at proving these passing thoughts wrong. I see this in the immediate success that we have had with Monday Talent.

Together with my wonderful partners, Jamie & Gillian, we have diverse perspectives and different mindsets but at the same time, similar goals and aspirations. Our unique views allow us to each see situations through different lenses but unite on outcomes. We are paving the way for future women-owned business. The sky is the limit.
