Monday moves: james lynch

We're excited to spotlight James Lynch who Monday placed as a Managing Director at Accenture in 2021. With a robust background in communications and marketing, James joined Accenture first as the global lead for CEO and chairman communications. Then a little over two years ago, he was tapped for his current role with the company to build a new marketing function of nearly 200 marketers around the world focused on client relationship marketing – helping Accenture to build and deepen client relationships to drive revenue and enhance reputation.

What was important to you when thinking about your next career move?

Whenever considering my next career move, I evaluate three factors: 1) what move can help me dive deeper and broader into my current marketing and communications discipline, or 2) what move can help me broaden my experience to the next set of adjacent skills, or 3) what move might be a “wild card” and help me to reinvent my career?  When Monday Talent approached me about Accenture, I saw that all three moves might be possible given the company’s purpose, global scope, and dedication to help their clients – and their talent – reinvent.

Were you actively looking for a new opportunity before working with Monday?

I wasn’t actively looking for a new opportunity before working with Monday. Jamie reached out to me with the Accenture opportunity, and we took the time to evaluate it together. What really stood out to me was the partnership and trust that Jamie and I built throughout the entire process. I felt, knew, and trusted that Jamie was genuinely invested in helping me find the right opportunity.

What was your experience like working with Monday? And was this your first time working with a recruiter?

My experience working with Monday Talent was outstanding. This wasn’t my first time working with a recruiter, as I had previously interacted with and been placed by larger search firms. True to every industry, when it comes to recruiting firms and practitioners, there is a wide spectrum of quality, values, and styles.  Working with Jamie was such a rewarding experience. He truly focused on adding value throughout the entire search process. What stood out to me most was that Jamie always led with purpose – making sure that every step we took was aligned with my goals and the right fit for me and for the new company.

What do you feel were the areas that Monday supported you the most during the whole recruiting process?

Monday supported me the most through their genuine curiosity and collaborative approach. Jamie took the time to understand the role thoroughly and we worked together to gather all the necessary information to ensure it was the optimal next move.  He helped me workshop each step along the way which made the process more thoughtful and strategic. What I really appreciated was how Jamie and I were always on the same side of the table—there was a strong sense of partnership and trust. Transparency was key throughout, and it didn’t just stop with me; I also used Monday to help build out my new communications team at Accenture, further reinforcing their support to me not only as a candidate, but also a client.

What excited you about the role at Accenture?

It was a role that offered reinvention – for me, for the craft of communications and marketing, for the company, and for the company’s clients. The role was an important life decision for me, especially given it required relocation and I wanted and needed to consider the move’s impact for my husband, Robby. The benefits, clarity of the role itself, and future growth opportunities were also key factors in making this the right choice, at the right time. Monday positioned me in a way that I felt welcomed and prepared, helping me land the role that not only fitted my skills but also ensuring I was becoming part of the executive talent bench at Accenture. That’s exactly my career story of the last four years.

Is there anything additional that made Monday Talent stand out as a recruitment firm?

Monday Talent is purpose-driven – investing in their candidates and clients – and always striving to build trust and transparency which are significant differentiators in today’s talent market. As an LGBTQIA+ leader and sponsor of diverse talent, I seek out and value other purpose-driven leaders and allies like Jamie and the whole Monday team. Monday’s strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) matters. They don’t just focus on the needs of clients; they really take the time to understand and address the unique factors that make each individual candidate authentically different.  I knew and trusted that Jamie wasn’t just presenting my professional skills but was also presenting my full humanity as a candidate.  Because of all of this, I feel wholeheartedly confident in recommending Monday Talent and Jamie to other candidates and clients.
