MONDAY MOVES: JASON BROWN

Meet Jason Brown, the dynamic new CEO of Pearlfisher. Previously the President of Godfrey Dadich Partners, Jason's career journey has evolved from designer to strategist to consultant and now to a leadership role at one of the most legendary design firms in the industry. With a focus on building and growing creative businesses, Jason is excited to unlock hidden talents and opportunities within Pearlfisher, fostering a culture of passion and innovation. Jason has had an impressive career journey, and below, we explore what he was looking for in his next big career move.

What was your previous role before becoming CEO of Pearlfisher?

I was previously the President of the branding agency Godfrey Dadich Partners. They sit at the intersection of brand and communications, specializing in storytelling with an editorial mindset.

What was important to you when thinking about your next move?

When I decided I was open to exploring and seeing what was out there, a couple of things would have to be true. I started my career as a designer, and then that evolved where I took on more strategy. It then evolved further, and I got into consulting and ran my own business for the better part of four and a half years. For my next big career move, I knew I needed to be in an operator role more than a creative role because I was enjoying what it meant to build and grow a business; however, the new company would have to be a creative business, given my background. I wasn’t interested in making a lateral move because I wanted the next evolution of my career to reflect leadership and an executive position.

When the Pearlfisher CEO opportunity came across my desk, it was the perfect fit in terms of role and responsibilities. The founding partners were planning their succession, and as an independent firm, there’s potential for acquisition and significant growth. Plus, the organization is a legendary design firm known by every designer. All these factors made it the right choice.

Was this your first time working with a recruiter or a recruiting agency? How did your experience with Monday Talent differ?

Not a recruiting agency in general, but definitely the first time engaging with Monday.

The process was pretty standard and straightforward, with the recruiter being the connective tissue to the company; however, Monday’s industry expertise and knowledge stood out. Recruiting executive talent in the creative or marketing space requires a certain level of industry expertise. You need to know the field, the key players, and what organizations are looking for. Understanding the specific category is essential.

How did Monday Talent support you in the hiring process for Pearlfisher?

What was helpful was just a measure of urgency on Monday's part to ensure the process kept moving at a steady rate. I didn't have to apply any pressure because Monday kept the wheels moving. It was a lengthy process, so Monday did a good job of keeping the process moving forward.

What are you excited about in your new roles?

I mean, plenty of things. I'm getting more and more excited about what I'm discovering here in terms of what I would call hidden talents—sort of the unlocked potential of value here that is yet to be tapped into. There’s a talented and passionate group of people who love the work that they do, which adds to a very special culture. Being able to gently open up some opportunities and give some individuals an opportunity to grow into their careers is very exciting.
